Rejection: Where Do I Go From Here?

It’s not a question of if people will hurt you, it is when people will hurt you.

There are many ways we find ourselves being rejected, and it never seems to get easier. Whether it be a relationship, a job, or whatever form of rejection you find yourself in, rejection is hard. It can easily get in the way of us living the life that God intended for us. We get caught up in wallowing over our sadness, or simply tuck it away while we try to act like it’s not at the forefront of our brain. If we think too much about who or what rejected us, we can get lost in trying to prove ourselves, which soon becomes toxic. I have found myself becoming too wrapped up in what others think of me and trying to keep up in that race that I will never win. Because frankly, people are always going to disappoint you. The hard truth is that everyone is a sinner, meaning they have full capacity and ability to hurt you. This is why we cannot put all of our trust in human beings. Because they are just that. Humans.

Whether you have been hurt by someone recently or it’s been a while, I’m sure I’m not the only one that has scars from people’s words and actions. They can hurt so bad and leave us with many questions and wondering “why”. Questions of  “What is wrong with me” or “If I was this or that people wouldn’t reject me” find their way into our thoughts and leave us doubting what God says about us. The fact is, these are lies and far from the truth. The devil wants you to think you aren’t worth God’s love.  But one thing I know is that he calls us his own. Songs of Solomon 4:7 says, “You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” I think that is one of the coolest verses. Though people will have their words against you, who can really be against you when that is what God says about you. Powerful.

It’s not a question of if people will hurt you, it is when people will hurt you. Take it from me, and do not put all of your hope and trust in one person, because that will come back to hurt you. Put away all hope in people and start putting hope in our God. He is the only one who can satisfy, and the only one who can fill your cup. You are enough for Him and always will be. In the eyes of our heavenly father, it is not about what you look like, how much money you have, or how much you’re “doing”, it is about his grace and his mercy that is SO big for you. Let him be your fulfillment. Let him drive you to live a life for Him, knowing your true worth.

Romans 12:19 “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
